Second chances are more rare than most of us would like, and that goes double for those who can’t speak for themselves. So when Apollo the cat was surrendered to a high-kill shelter in Michigan after his elderly owner was placed in a nursing home, there wasn’t much hope for him.

Even after Nancy Hutchinson, founder and president of Michigan Cat Rescue, saved Apollo from being euthanized, there was no guarantee he’d get his second chance—especially after he lost his eye to an infection. Then, amazingly, something miraculous happened

After Apollo the cat was surrendered to a high-kill shelter, Nancy Hutchinson of Michigan Cat Rescue was able to rescue him before it was too late. But he wasn’t out of the woods yet.

As a senior cat, he was already at a disadvantage. He also suffered from a severe infection that eventually cost him an eye.

Luckily, Nancy fell in love with him regardless and began the process of trying to find him a forever home.

Terribly, no one seemed to be interested in a one-eyed cat.
